In partnership with Friends of Rockaway, Presbyterian Hope in Action is working to bring volunteers for day–long and week–long mission trips. Friends of Rockaway is looking for an average of 60 volunteers per week through the end of October.

New Yorkers for New Yorkers — Volunteer!

Local New York volunteers are particularly needed! Are you willing to travel to Rockaway for a day or weekend?

Does your congregation have a team that would like to volunteer once a month for rebuild efforts? Opportunities to assist in rebuilding homes are available through our partnership with Friends of Rockaway! Opportunities can be arranged to support your congregation and ministry. Volunteering can be wonderful for team building in congregation groups.

Call or email questions. We will work with your congregation to find the right fit for you. Contact:

Out–of–Town Volunteer Groups

Housing Volunteers

New York City is facing a shortage of locations to house volunteer groups that travel to NYC to assist with Superstorm Sandy rebuild efforts. Housing volunteers can be a wonderful way to contribute to Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. Housing ministries can revitalize congregations and provide essential support to storm recovery efforts.

If your congregation is interested in hosting volunteers contact via email, info@phianyc.org, or call 212-247-0490 ext. 3002.

Transportation Reimbursement

Through a grant from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), Presbyterian Hope in Action can reimburse out of town volunteer rebuild groups up to 50% of cost for travel within the City of New York. This grant is meant to encourage volunteer rebuild groups interested in coming to New York City for weeklong mission trips.

For more information about transportation reimbursement, visit this page.
